Course Overview & Modules

SGE401: “Introduction to the Fantasy Sports Industry” is divided into six modules that cover the birth of fantasy sports and its growth into an omnipresent industry that today attracts everyone from casual sports fans to professional fantasy sports players. Three industry experts lead this course: Peter Schoenke, President and Co-founder of RotoWire; Stacie Stern, Director of Government Affairs at FanDuel; and Nic Sulsky, President of Monkey Knife Fight. All three are board members of the Fantasy Sports & Gaming Association. Their discussions will be shared in closed captioned-videos, audio-only podcasts, and written transcriptions of the video lectures. In addition, you will also be able to review downloadable PDFs, visual resources and reading materials.

Topics discussed include the individuals who have had a major impact on the 'birth' of fantasy sports, early industry leagues that were responsible for shaping the formation of the industry, and legislative actions that have had a major impact.

2. The Diverse Landscape of Fantasy Sports

Fantasy Sports is a booming industry. The industry has grown exponentially over the last decade, with more people joining each year than ever before. It's not just a fad anymore - it's an established market that provides entertainment to millions of people every day. With the rise of people, different businesses and types of games emerge. This section covers some of those diverse types of games offered in fantasy sports, from season-long leagues to daily contests and everything in between. Discover some of the significant players that shape the industry, including taking a closer look at FanDuel and Monkey Knife Fight.

3. Fantasy Sports: Business Models & Innovations

Fantasy sports has seen tremendous growth over the years. Throughout that history of expansion, different business models and innovations have influenced the industry, and some are even changing the face of fantasy sports today. 5. Regulating Fantasy Sports

The Fantasy Sports industry has been a hot market for the past decade. But the regulatory environment that it operates in remains ambiguous and disjointed, which can lead to problems.
