Master Certification Overview

Managing the issues surrounding the fantasy sports industry in the US is a complex task. That's why Ohio University has partnered with the Fantasy Sports & Gaming Association and Cyanna Education Services to deliver a new online program for the fantasy sports industry. Subject matter experts from the FSGA, FanDuel, Rotowire and more, all team up to deliver an exciting online program for fantasy sports education and awareness.

This program will benefit regulators, sports organizations, legal professions and more. Earn a certificate for completing each course, and a Master Certificate for achieving all three.

SGE401: “Introduction to the Fantasy Sports Industry”

The fantasy sports industry has changed tremendously. From its humble roots in rotisserie baseball, fantasy sports have now evolved into a billion-dollar industry with more than 50 million players worldwide. Peer into the history of fantasy sports and discover how it became the powerhouse that it is today. Discover the major players in the industry, business models, and how fantasy sports compare to legalized sports gambling. Realize the regulations and oversight that shape the industry and gain a perspective on stakeholders that comprise the fantasy sports world.

This course is developed in partnership with the Fantasy Sports & Gaming Association (FSGA) and led by 3 FSGA board members: Peter Schoenke, President and Co-founder of RotoWire, Stacie Stern, Director of Government Affairs at FanDuel, and Nic Sulsky, President of Monkey Knife Fight. It offers a 360° perspective on the evolution of the fantasy sports industry and the factors that led to, and sometimes hamper, the growth of this market.

SGE402: “Interpreting Fantasy Law, Compliance, and Regulations”

Guidance for the offering and participation in fantasy sports is set by laws, regulations, and compliance requirements, but these can be difficult to understand and even harder to interpret. Fantasy sports enthusiasts are usually well-versed in their specific game's nuances but may not be as knowledgeable about how those laws apply to them. Discover how laws, legal cases, and regulations have shaped the fantasy sports industry.

This course is developed in partnership with the Fantasy Sports & Gaming Association FSGA and led by members & honorees of the FSGA: Glenn Colton, Partner at Arent Fox, Government Enforcement/White Collar and Sports Practices; Stacey Brandenburg, ZwillGen Shareholder; Sean Ostrow, Public Policy Contractor at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe; Stacie Stern, Government Affairs Director at FanDuel.

SGE403: “Analyzing Positions of Fantasy Sports Operators”

The number of companies operating fantasy sports continues to grow, with some estimates noting over half a million players participating on these platforms each year. With such a high level of interest from consumers, it's no wonder that companies have jumped on board with their own fantasy offerings. But, how does one successfully enter and operate in the fantasy sports space? Discover how operators navigate the regulations, challenges, and best practices as they use their own platforms to offer fantasy sports services.

This course is developed in partnership with the Fantasy Sports & Gaming Association (FSGA) and led by members & honorees of the FSGA: Brandon Loeschner, Partner, National Practice Leader in Gaming Services at RubinBrown; Stacie Stern, Government Affairs Director at FanDuel; Nic Sulsky, President of Monkey Knife Fight.
